I love quotations. To me, they represent words of wisdom accumulated through the years of experience by the many others who have walked the path before us. We can tap on their experience, learn a great deal and apply them successfully in our work and lives. Let me share 3 of my favourite quotes here:
Quote #1 “If you treat a person as he is, he will stay as he is; but if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.”
This quotation, in my view, shows the significance and responsibilities that managers and supervisors carry in leading their employees. If they see their employees as potential stars and treat them in that manner, the employees would gradually become that.
Reflect and ask yourself this: How do I view and manage my employees?
Quote #2 “Leadership: The art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.”
I find this quotation insightful because it shares a deeper meaning of leadership, i.e. getting employees to do what you want them to do willingly. Here, the leader is able to influence and persuade the follower to achieve the goals and targets because he wants to do it himself.
Now, how do you lead your team? By Sheer Force or Strong Persuasion?
Quote #3 “Strong beliefs and powerful actions make a great team.”
In my 16 years of experience as a leadership coach, workshop facilitator and seminar speaker, I have found that strong beliefs in a shared vision, in themselves and powerful actions, not talks, make successful teams. I created this quotation to share this little wisdom with my learners during my workshops, seminars and coaching sessions.
