1. Show them the Big Picture, But make Tasks bite size
Understanding the big picture and how their task fit into it is important to GEN Y. They want to feel like they are contributing to something bigger. Making the task smaller let them feel that they are constantly making progress.
2. Provide Challenging Work
The only way to take advantage of their high-achievement objectives is to give them challenges, goals and methods by which they can be judged.
3. Build Personal Relationships
Talk to them and listen to them. You can no longer assume all your employees want the same things you want.
4. Understand their Values
Each generation has different values. Where older generations often value stability, GEN Y values flexibility. Understanding what’s important to each member of your team will help you to engage, motivate and retain them.
5. Recognise and Reward
GEN Y are likely to need regular reinforcement, constant feedback, lofty goals and significant rewards. Celebrate accomplishments, no matter how small they are.
